GEOGRAPHY ACTION! 2006

 

Dear Geographers,

 

Welcome to the 2006 GEOGRAPHY AWARENESS WEEK (GAW) which is celebrated from November 12th to the 18th.  This year’s theme is Africa.”  The National Geographic Society’s website  http://www.nationalgeographic.com/geographyaction/  has been created for educators to interact, get new ideas, materials, and activities, ask questions, and even obtain feedback concerning your Geography Action!  work.  Teachers can host a live chat or participate in discussions, or collaborate with others.

 

In addition, the Massachusetts Geographic Alliance has created a daily designation to help stimulate your students to celebrate GEOGRAPHY AWARENESS WEEK.

 

MIGRATION  MONDAY               Use http://www.nationalgeographic.com/xpeditions/

lessons/09/gk2/migrations.html to introduce the push/pull

concepts of migration.

TRAVEL TUESDAY                         Create a brochure to promote travel to Africa emphasizing ethnic celebrations.

WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY        Use MyWonderfulWorld.org website to instill global

                                                            knowledge in your students.

TRADITIONS THURSDAY            Visit http://worldmusic.nationalgeographic.com/

and traditions of South Africa.

FINALE FRIDAY                              Invite your student to colorfully illustrate what they have

learned about Africa on the outline map of Africa.
