NEWS

This past summer we presented a 1-week mapping institute, entitled "Maps and their stories" at the Norman B. Leventhal Map Center at the Boston Public Library.  Teachers spent the time learning about how to interpret the messages of maps, historical and contemporary. Check out the report.

 

A Campaign to re-instate Geography Teacher 

 Licensure. We invite you to contact DESE about 

 placing this issue on their agenda. We need to

 have great geography taught in our schools.

 

 Mission to Liberia  is a great service learning

  project that assists development in Liberia.

  A great way to get your students involved in

  helping create a better world.

 

 Geography Family Night  is a great opportunity  

 to involve the community. Congratulations to

 Robert Poirier of North Andover Middle School for 

 organizing a great evening  on Thursday March 11;

 he had more than 350 people at the event with

   National Council of the Social Studies as the 2009

   Outstanding Elementary Level Teacher

 

  Judy McKenzie of Swampscott Middle School has   

  received the Geography Teacher of the Year Award from  

  NESTVAL,  The New England St. Lawrence Valley 

  Geography Society.
